2012 - 2013 Season
A Note from Vanessa
“Let it work on you. Let it spread out. Let it wrap its arms around you, let it embrace you…” - Mark Rothko in Red by John Logan
Our aim at ATP is to make life more beautiful, by creating and producing great contemporary theatre from Canada and beyond. Our work is about what’s now, what’s new & what’s next. In the welcoming oval of the Martha Cohen Theatre, right here in Calgary, we stretch as deep as life, as wide as the world.
I think plays ask questions - questions that maybe we ourselves can’t quite articulate, or haven’t yet dared ask. Sometimes, a great theatrical experience can awaken parts of ourselves we have forgotten existed. Some days, the world can make us feel like a number, a one-dimensional consuming unit. The noise of the world we live in can seem overwhelming – no room to breathe, or think, or feel. But a terrific night in the theatre can help us breathe again. Suddenly, we feel fully and truly alive. It’s so nourishing, in the midst of modern life.
In our 2012/2013 season, you’ll see a dazzling range of people, stories, styles, moods and cultures. We’ll tell some universally appealing tales, share some laughs and tears, and we’ll go on some daring theatrical adventures too. We’ve also planned a few exciting collaborations, theatre that crosses boundaries and brings us together.
Ultimately, at ATP, we do theatre about being alive right now. For me, nothing is more exciting to experience, nor more vital for a theatre company to do than that.
So, welcome. Come on in, sit down with us, and join the conversation!
See you in the Martha Cohen Theatre,
