Stephen’s play Mary’s Wedding premiered in 2002 at Alberta Theatre Projects annual playRites Festival and was the winner of the 2000 Alberta Playwriting Competition, the 2002 Betty Mitchell Award for Best New Play and the 2003 Alberta Book Award for Drama. Mary’s Wedding continues to be produced in English and French throughout Canada, the UK and the US. His play The Oxford Roof Climber’s Rebellion was commissioned by the National Arts Center of Canada and was produced in Toronto and Ottawa as a co-production between the Tarragon Theatre and Great Canadian Theatre Company and was a hit off Broadway. The play won the 2007 Canadian Author’s Association Award for Best English Language Play and the 2007 Alberta Book Award for Drama. His newest play The Clockmaker premiered in February of 2009 at Alberta Theatre Projects’ playRites Festival and was the winner of the 2009 Betty Mitchell Award for Best New Play and most recently, the Toronto Critics’ Association Award for Best Canadian Play. The Clockmaker had its US premiere at the City Theatre of Pittsburgh. Stephen’s film writing credits include the feature films Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning and The Dark.



Meg RoeMeg Roe Mary

Meg is so pleased to be back at ATP where she last appeared in The Penelopiad, working with the fabulous Amy Lippold; The Syringa Tree; Proof; and The Shape of Things, where she worked with the incomparable Bob White. Meg is also thrilled to be sharing the stage with Alessandro Juliani, an all round amazing guy with whom she has collaborated on more than thirty five productions over the last nine years. Meg’s other work as an actor, director, and sound designer has appeared across the country at the Canadian Stage Company, Factory Theatre, Theatre Calgary, Alberta Theatre Projects, Bard on the Beach, Theatre Junction, Citadel Theatre, Ruby Slippers Theatre, Electric Company Theatre, Blackbird Theatre, Theatre Aquarius, Arts Club, Belfry, Theatre SKAM, Manitoba Theatre Centre, Intrepid Theatre, the Vancouver Playhouse, Western Canada Theatre, the National Arts Centre, Centaur Theatre, at the American Conservatory Theatre (San Francisco), Center Theater Group (Los Angeles), and with Kidd Pivot Frankfurt RM (Frankfurt).



Alessandro JulianiAlessandro Juliani - Charlie

Alessandro currently makes his living as an actor, singer, sound designer and composer. He is excited to make his Calgary debut at the Martha Cohen - a theatre where he has admired the work of so many artists over the years, chief among them, the inimitable Meg Roe, with whom he is blessed to share a home, garden, and various bills. His most recent acting credits include: All the Way Home (Electric Company Theatre), a run as Hal/Henry in Falstaff and Henry V (Bard on the Beach), saving Tokyo from destruction as Super Frog in Haruki Murukami’s After the Quake (Pi/Rumble Theatre), and saving Superman from Kryptonite-related illness as Dr. Emil Hamilton on Smallville. He just finished composing an original score for the short film Wait For Rain and creating a soundscape for Crystal Pite’s latest work with Kidd Pivot Frankfurt RM. Upcoming, he will sound design for the National Arts Centre’s production of King Lear.



Bob WhiteBob White - Director

Bob White has had a major impact on Canadian theatre as a champion of new Canadian plays - their creation, development, production and profile. As Artistic Director of Playwrights Workshop Montreal (1975-78), Bob White expanded its reach to include writers from across the country. Subsequently, more than 25 new plays premiered during his tenure (1978-87) as Artistic Director of Factory Theatre in Toronto. For the first dozen years with Alberta Theatre Projects, 1987-99, Bob was “artistic associate,” in charge of script selection and development for ATP’s playRites Festival of New Canadian Plays. From 1999 to 2009, he was the company’s Artistic Director. Under White’s aegis, ATP blossomed as a home and ambassador for new Canadian work. Bob White’s own lengthy directing resumé at ATP includes 6 premieres by Calgary-based Eugene Stickland, and plays by other Canadian notables Michael Healey and Brad Fraser, alongside high-profile scripts by such controversial American playwrights as David Mamet (Oleanna), Paula Vogel (How I Learned To Drive), Neil Labute (The Shape of Things), and Tony Kushner’s two-part masterwork Angels In America. He has also directed at theatres across the country, including most recently Stephen Massicotte’s The Clockmaker at Toronto’s Tarragon Theatre. When White left ATP in 2009 to take up the life of a freelance director/dramaturg, he became a consulting director for the Stratford Shakespeare Festival’s new play program. Bob White’s long list of awards include the 1982 Dora Award in Toronto for outstanding production (for Walker’s Theatre of the Film Noir), the 1987 National Play Development Award, the 2001 Harry and Martha Cohen Award, the City of Calgary 2002 Community Achievement Award, 3 Betty Mitchell Awards for outstanding direction (Who Has Seen The Wind, Wit, A Guide To Mourning), an honorary LLD from the University of Calgary in 2008, membership in the Order of Canada in 2009, and most recently, the Diamond Jubilee Medal.



Patrick FinnPatrick Finn
- Assistant Director

After two and half decades as a musical and theatrical performer, Patrick Finn has started to focus more on directing, earning an MFA in the area from the University of Calgary. Directing credits include: House of Glass, Hamlet, The Humorous Magistrate, Aesop’s Fables, King Lear and Vopnahlé (University of Calgary) and The Josephine Knot and The Kingdom of Three (IGNITE!). He has extensive experience as a dramaturg for professional and academic productions of classical and new work,  and is an Instructor in the Department of Drama at the UofC. Upcoming projects include the launch of a new summer festival at the University of Calgary and the production of a new play using a portable, energy efficient performance cube he designed in collaboration with Nemalux LED Lighting. 


Kari Jones - Apprentice Stage Manager   Kari Jones graduated from the University of Lethbridge where she received a BFA in Dramatic Arts – Tech & Design. Kari’s primary interest lies within stage management so she’s thrilled to finally have the opportunity to work with ATP. Some previous stage management credits include: Calgary Opera; Moby Dick, The Inventor (Apprentice Stage Manger), The Brothers Grimm, New West Theatre’s GLITZ, Broadway West’s Toxic Avenger, UofL; Hair, Arcadia, Age of Arousal, Into the Woods, SummerWorks Toronto festival under the parrot/over tennessee.

Amy LippoldAmy Lippold - Stage Manager

Amy, as always, is extremely delighted to be back on her home stomping grounds. Favourite credits include: Stage Manager: The Wizard of Oz the Musical, Seussical™ the Musical, The Penelopiad, Shakespeare's Dog, Toad of Toad Hall, Robin Hood, Unity (1918), The Drowning Girls (Alberta Theatre Projects); Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Evelyn Strange (Vertigo Theatre); Evil Dead: The Musical (Ground Zero Theatre/Hit & Myth); Princess of the Stars (Patria Opera); Cosi Fan Tutte, La Tragedie de Carmen, Phaedra/Dido & Aeneas (The Banff Centre); Little Mercy's First Murder (Ground Zero Theatre); Bat Boy the Musical (Mob Hit Productions). Narda McCarrollNarda McCarroll - Set/Props/Light/Costume Design

Narda is an Edmonton-based set, costume and lighting designer who considers Calgary her second home. She is thrilled to be a part of this new production of a play she fell in love with ten years ago when she designed it for Workshop West Theatre. For ATP Narda has designed: lights for The Wizard of Oz, Shakespeare’s Dog, The Drowning Girls (which went on to a National Tour), set/lights for Rabbit Hole, Plan B, and set/costumes for Vincent in Brixton, Stones in His Pockets, and A Boys Own Jedi Handbook. Other recent favourites include: set/lights for True Love Lies (Citadel Theatre) and The 39 Steps (Vertigo Theatre, Mayfield Dinner Theatre, Stage West); set/costumes for The Trespassers (Belfry Theatre, Vancouver Playhouse) and production design for The Last Tree of Rapa Nui (MTYP). Narda has designed the costumes for the Freewill Players’ Shakespeare Festival in Edmonton for 13 lucky seasons. She is the recipient of 3 Sterling Awards, a Betty Mitchell Award and a SATA Award. Matthew WaddellMatthew Waddell - Composition/Sound Design

Matthew Waddell is a sound designer, musician and multimedia programmer involved in various art activities in Montreal and his hometown of Calgary. Recent theatre credits include ONE (Redtoblue Performance); Reverie, Something to do with Death (Ghost River Theatre); An Inspector Calls, Tons of Money (The Montgomery Theatre, PEI); Abraham Lincoln Goes to the Theatre (Alberta Theatre Projects) and Coma Unplugged (Talisman Theatre, Montreal). Along with theatre, Matthew works as a sound editor and designer for motion pictures. He is also active in the Montreal experimental and improvised music community with his band Corse, with whom he recently attended a musical residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts. He teaches and uses Max/MSP to create custom software for audiovisual creation, interactive installation and live performance. Matthew is the 2011 recipient of the Betty Mitchell Award for outstanding sound design for his work on ONE and is thankful that you read his entire bio.
